More info on Bill HR8404, which may be voted on in Congress tomorrow
Letter from Rabbis stating the Torah position on the bill, and talking points for calling representatives.
BS”D
Here is a letter from the Rabbis of the Rabbinical Union, stating Judaism’s position on Bill HR 8404. This letter states the true Jewish (Torah) position on Bill HR8404. It’s really important for this to be known, because many people pretend that Judaism says otherwise.
Please help me correct the desecration of G-d’s Name caused by people who misrepresent His will in this topic, and spread this far and wide.
Please see last Thursday’s article, which explains many of the terrible effects the bill will cause in greater detail.
We are begging everyone to call as many of the House representatives as you can, and ask them from your heart to VOTE NO on Bill HR 8404.
Here is a talking point which I found effective: G-d gave me the idea of a plea which has universal appeal - to save the children.
I explained to each one (and left messages where I got answering machines) that most people aren’t aware how dangerous Bill HR8404 is to children. It would force every state to recognize marriages that are valid in only one state. So, if a child is forcibly “married” to an older man (pedophilia), and the marriage is recognized in one state, not only will every state have to recognize it, but anyone who tries to save the child from this “marriage” could be sued, under Bill HR8404.
So, you could be sued if you try to save a child you care about from a pedophile.
I got that information from Liberty Counsel. I googled it myself now, to check child marriage laws, and found this:
Of course, there is much more that is wrong with Bill HR8404, and I made sure to talk about other things too, but I thought the above point might be the most powerful for the lawmakers to hear.
When I called on Friday, a staff member at one of the representatives’ offices told me they’ve been getting lots of calls about this bill. That was encouraging. I don’t know if we’ll change the outcome of the vote, but I know that every call is a success because we did our duty and stood on the side of G-d!
Since it’s 47 representatives, it’s really too much for most people to call all of them. So, someone had the idea of asking each person to call at least the few members listed under the last digit of your own phone number. (For example, if your own cell number ends in 6331, call David, Kat, and Mario, listed next to #1.) If you have time, please try to call more.
