UPDATE ON HR8404 (DIS)-Respect for Marriage Act and URGENT REQUEST
Call or email now, please!
BS”D
Very late last night, I got an update from the activist family friend (I’ll call him YD) who had been in Washington yesterday.
Now I have a better understanding. Here is what he explained:
• Yesterday, the voting ended up being on the wording of some of the amendments. Today, they’re planning to finish with the amendments, and vote on the actual bill.
Yesterday’s vote was not good, as you probably know already.
• All our phone calls to the senators did accomplish something, though. YD said that the senators’ phones were ringing off the hook, and it really made an impression on them.
(Unfortunately, he said we were coming a bit late in the game to change their votes on this, though. Too bad we didn’t know about it before.)
In particular, Dan Sullivan and Cynthia Lummis were affected to the extent that they were no longer satisfied with the existing, anemic religious freedom amendments, and now want Lee’s amendment (which the Dems absolutely don’t want.)
• No religious freedom “amendment” can ever make this bill OK, as it goes against G-d Himself.
But if we’re talking about fighting for whatever we can get, to try to save whatever we can, know that the current “religious amendments” are so weak that the ones who came up with this bill are the same people who wrote in the amendments! They like the amendments, that’s how worthless they are. They’re full of holes. And, they can be repealed at any time (as we saw them do here in NY with “religious amendments.”)
(Please see large amount of explanatory material regarding the bill and the amendments under this action point.)
What we should do now:
Pray to the Creator.
Call the senators again now, if you can, even if you called yesterday, and tell them how extremely concerned you are about the (DIS)-Respect for Marriage Act, Bill HR8404.
There is still time, as the bill itself wasn’t yet voted on.
Republican senators to call, who previously supported the bill, to ask them to reverse their position and vote against it today:
Suzanne Collins -Maine 202-224-2523
Rob Portman - Ohio 202-224-3353
Thom Tillis - North Carolina 202-224-6342
Lisa Murkowski - Alaska 202-224-6665
Mitt Romney - Utah 202-224-5251
Joni Ernst - Iowa 202-224-3254
Roy Blunt - Missouri 202-224-5724
Richard Burr - North Carolina 202-224-3154

Cynthia Lummis - Wyoming 202-224-3424
Todd Young - Indiana 202-224-5623
Dan Sullivan - Alaska 202-224-3004 (corrected number.)
Please share with as many people as possible.
Thank you so much and G-d bless you!

PS. Here is an article I was sent that provides a good update:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – Democrats’ bill to codify same-sex “marriage” passed another key procedural vote in the Senate on Monday, supported by a handful Republicans who continue to side against the party’s base.
The Senate voted 61-35 to end debate on an amendment to the “Respect for Marriage Act” (RFMA) ostensibly meant to address religious freedom concerns, the Hill reported. But the amendment, drafted by a coalition of Democrat and liberal Republican senators, has faced widespread, scathing criticism from conservatives for failing to include meaningful protections for individuals and organizations opposed to same-sex “marriage.”
Monday’s vote paves the way for a final vote in the Senate, which is scheduled for tomorrow and requires 60 “yes” votes, according to the U.S. Senate Periodical Press Gallery.
The RFMA would make the redefinition of marriage the law of the land, even in the event that the Supreme Court overturns its 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that mandates legal recognition of same-sex “marriage” nationwide.
The bill would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996, which federally recognized marriage as a union between one man and one woman and the guaranteed the right of states to uphold traditional marriage, and instead would require the federal government and all 50 states to recognize homosexual “marriages” and any other marriages lawfully performed in any state.
It also poses grave threats to religious freedom, as numerous social conservative and religious liberty groups have repeatedly warned.
The Senate will vote tomorrow on amendments offered by Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, James Lankford of Oklahoma, and Marco Rubio of Utah designed to blunt the bill’s impact on religious freedom.
The Lankford and Rubio Amendments each require a majority vote for passage. The Lee Amendment, the most comprehensive of the three, needs 60 votes, effectively dooming its passage in the evenly-divided Senate.
12 Republicans again join Democrats to betray marriage
As LifeSiteNews reported, the Senate voted two weeks ago to begin formal debate on the RFMA, with 12 Republicans joining all Democrats to clear the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold.
Those Republicans include: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Todd Young of Indiana.
The same 12 Republicans joined Democrats on Monday to advance the bill once again.
So far two GOP senators who voted to move forward on the RFMA – Sens. Sullivan and Lummis – have announced their support of the Lee Amendment.
The House already passed the bill in July with an unexpected 47 Republican votes and the blessing of Republican House leaders, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. It would have to pass the House again after being amended in the Senate.
The White House has enthusiastically endorsed the RFMA, which would be Joe Biden’s first major legislative victory on LGBT issues.
Polling has consistently shown broad disapproval of the legislation among Republican voters, however.
A recent Heritage Foundation survey of likely voters in Indiana, Iowa, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming found that 47 percent oppose the RFMA and just 41 percent support it.
Seventy percent of GOP voters in the five states oppose the bill, according to the poll.
