The fall of Rome is inevitable. Evil has no creative power. Evil is self-destructive. The only power that evil has is to destroy good. Once evil has destroyed enough good, it inevitably collapses, because it has no self-sustaining power base. The rise of Rome is also inevitable. All the evil leaders/regimes parading throughout history prove this. We enabled them. We build our own prisons. We enslave ourselves.
The cost of freedom is constant alertness. Evil people gain power because we sleep at our posts. We sleep at our posts because we fail to defeat the enemy within first.
